Geneva / Accommodation / Good Value

Tucked away near the Place du Bourg-de-Four in the heart of the Old Town is this gem of a hotel. Owned by the Salvation Army, it is exquisitely decorated with bright yellow and blue rooms and tiled baths. It also has a spectacular terrace and a graceful Louis-Philippe-style breakfast salon. Conference facilities are available.

A small but charming family-run hotel/bed and breakfast decorated in the style of an old Genevan house, with quaint rooms, old fireplaces and parquet floors. Located just seconds away from the lake side, it’s worth booking in advance to get a room with a view.

Decorated in the style of a Swiss chalet, the hotel is just a short walk from the train station and is centrally located. This is Swiss kitsch at its best, with carved wood, cow bells and pictures of St Bernard dogs aplenty. In keeping with the theme, the restaurant serves Swiss specialities such as fondue and raclette.

Opened in 2005 and located just minutes from the airport and the Palexpo centre, this is a very reasonably priced, functional hotel without the frills. Geneva’s largest shopping mall, Balexert, is just across the road from the hotel. And for the stressed business traveller, a complimentary massage is offered on Thursdays.
