Dublin / Accommodation

Unapologetically old fashioned in terms of its décor, the Berkeley Court attracts a mature clientele who also appreciate that it’s a couple of miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. The rooms too are a throwback to a bygone age, with robes and slippers neatly laid-out on the dresser. The adherence to tradition ends with their business centre, which has some of the most advanced video conferencing facilities in the country.

Its reasonable room rates and close proximity to the Central Bank Building make this three-star hotel a firm favou-rite with the number crunching brigade. The only thing that stops Blooms being the perfect budget option is a basement nightclub, which stays open late at the weekends and makes some of the rooms too noisy to sleep in.

A much-loved Dublin landmark, Buswells has been privy to almost as much political intrigue as the Irish parliament building, Dail Eireann, across the road. A strict adherence to tradition means that the décor is much the same as it was in 1921 when Eamon de Valera and Michael Collins were among the fi rst to prop up its oak-panelled bar. Mindful of the discretion some of its regulars require, the hotel has recently added private dining options to its wide range of facilities.

The exterior may have a touch of the communist monoliths about it, but inside The Four Seasons is as tastefully opulent as Dublin hotels get. With the American, British and German embassies down the road, it’s popular with the diplomatic set and the people they do business with. The high level of discretion and security that brings has also made it the hotel of choice for visiting superstars like Justin Timberlake and Eminem.

The latest addition to Jurys’ chain of Dublin hotels is also its best appointed with O’Connell Street, Grafton Street and the rapidly expanding Irish Financial Services Centre all within easy reach. The flat-fee room rate for up to three adults may be one of the best deals in town, but there’s nothing cut-price about the amenities and service which rightly warrant the hotel’s three stars.
