A unique combination of high quality French and traditional Welsh cuisine, Le Gallois recently won the ‘True Taste of Wales’. Despite being pricey, this restaurant is far from pretentious. With its warm and bright interior and an imaginative menu created by inspired Cardiff-born chef Padrig Jones, Le Gallois has a relaxed atmosphere—it’s somewhere you will want to revisit again and again. A lunch special (£14.95 for two courses or £17.95 for three) is available, and there’s an extensive wine list. For dessert try the unusual parsnip icecream.

Behind the bustle of bland St Mary’s Street lies the upmarket and extremely tasteful Le Monde. With its stylish art deco interior, and a wine list extensive and diverse enough to satisfy the finest connoisseur, Le Monde exudes class. Choose your meal from an elaborate glass counter, which is piled high with fresh local and exotic fish, as well as steaks for meat-lovers. It may be pricey, but with impeccable service and the high quality food, it is definitely worth it. They also serve a superb £9.95 two-course lunch during the week.
