This self-styled 'jewel of functionalist architecture’ continues to be a focal point for high-level meetings and gatherings, although it’s increasingly facing competition from the Danube, its neighbour, and the Carlton and renovated Crowne across the Old Town core. The Devin takes a more 'old world’ approach to the hotel trade, and if it were forced to choose might pick elegance over efficiency. The lobby bar is outstandingly comfortable, although you should make the effort to leave its armchairs for the French restaurant.

The Tatra is another Bratislava hotel that has been galvanised into action by the competition. The standard beds are still much narrower than you might find in an international chain hotel, but it has cut down on the practice of charging for the use of almost anything. The three congress halls with total capacity of about 250 come well equipped with all the presentation and meeting necessities. The Tatra is very central, just around the corner from the Presidential Palace and the Old Town.
