Amazing architecture (Hans Scharoun’s masterpiece) and excellent acoustics grace this concert hall which houses a world-class orchestra, British star-conductor Sir Simon Rattle’s Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Check out the amazing Kammermusiksaal for chamber music concerts.

 

Chamäleon Varieté has been popular for well over 10 [year]s. It hosts a changing, always interesting range of comedy shows, many of which require no real understanding of German.

 

CineStar Originals is the film temple for Berlin’s expats and tourists as it shows only original English-language movies (with no subtitles!) and, once in a while, big German releases with English subtitles. It has also become the cinema of choice for film premieres.

 

Berlin has three opera houses, all of which put on shows of a very high standard. Have a look at their websites when you’re in town to see what takes your fancy.

 

Berlin’s English-language theatre, Friends of Italian Opera has just re[open]ed its doors with a bigger stage for its very popular in-house productions or guest performances.

 

 

Rebuilt after being destroyed in the Second World War, the beautiful Konzerthaus is home to the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. Here you can hear world-class classical music in elegant, if not slightly pompous, surroundings. Particularly enjoyable are the outdoor concerts during the summer months.

 

Berlin’s biggest casino, Spielbank Berlin, has all the classic table games.
