Athens / Dining / Asian

Far East is actually a smart mini-chain of three restaurants serving a variety of dishes from several Asian countries. The other two restaurants in the chain are at Diligianni 54, Kifissia (Tel: 210 623 3140) and Lazaraki & Pandoras in Glyfada (Tel: 210 894 0500). All three share high gastronomic standards in the kitchen and high-class aesthetics that combine western and Asian elements.

A groundbreaker, the Kona Kai is one of just two places serving Polynesian food in Athens and was single-handedly responsible for introducing Athenians to its distant delights. The restaurant belongs to one of the top Athens hotels, the Ledra Marriot, and the tone is one of relaxed but exotic luxury, as diners eat among cascading waterfalls. The chefs are accomplished, performing particularly well with fried foods, and the bar is famous for a great Mai Tai.

The Mylos restaurants in New York and Montreal are perhaps the most famous Greek restaurants in the world. This recent addition to the chain in Athens is modeled after its transatlantic predecessors, placing the emphasis on a delicate, noninterventionist cuisine that will highlight the exquisite fl avours of its top-class, fresh ingredients. One of the most eagerly anticipated restaurant openings of this year, dining at Mylos is an event, not least because of the stylish interior.
