A former 17th-century frescoed chapel makes the historic if unlikely setting for one of Amsterdam’s most popular clubs. Music from the 60s to the 90s attracts a mixed crowd. On Timezone club nights, funk, soul and New York disco reign.

[open]ing times vary Anything goes A venue for the more mature, if not in age, at least in taste. The music tends to be jazz, Cuban/salsa or world music. There is also a restaurant/café. Badcuyp likes to bill itself as the “music centre of the Pipe”, and they could be right.

 

With room for over 2,000 celebrants, Escape is one of the largest venues in the city. On Saturday nights, it is re-christened Chemistry and both local DJs and visiting international guests do their best to whip the audience into a late-night frenzy. Not for the sleepy.

 

On the edge of the Jordaan, a local hangout for lovers of blue, roots and rock. The audience generally comes to listen, not to dance. Although the acts are often local, the club frequently books bands from the US and UK and big names playing elsewhere in the city might stop by after their show for some jamming.
