Amsterdam / Accommodation / Business

Built in 1900, the Amsterdam American Hotel is a listed art nouveau monument popular with visiting celebrities. Despite some modern renovations several years ago, the hotel has remained true to its origins. Art nouveau details can be found in the stained glasses windows, Tiffany lamps and granite-topped vanities. Its Café Americain restaurant is art deco in design and serves fine French and international dishes. It also offers ample business resources, including four fully equipped theatre-style meeting rooms which can host 100 delegates each, 5 meeting suites and a mezzanine for coffee breaks, interviews or break-out meetings.

There is an emphasis on health and wellbeing at the Hotel Okura Amsterdam, a five-star hotel in the southern part of the city. Guests suffering from jet lag are invited to participate in the hotel’s Jet Lag Program, in which you sit under a special light that re-sets your body clock. Even if you aren’t jet-lagged, you can still enjoy a traditional Japanese sauna and massage, go for a Turkish bath or ask the concierge to arrange for a golfing excursion. Okura’s restaurants are among the best in the city, particularly Yamazato and Ciel Bleu, both of which have Michelin stars. It also offers expansive meeting facilities which can accommodate up to 2,500 people.

The Hotel Pulitzer is made of 25 restored 17th and 18th-century Canal Houses along the Prinsengracht, or Prince’s Canal. Despite modern renovations, traditional aspects, such as wooden beams, have been kept intact in the rooms. The Pulitzer has 10 meeting rooms that can accommodate between four and 200 people. From October-May, they host Opera Brunches once a month. The hotel is situated in the picturesque Jordaan neighbourhood, just a few minutes from the Anne Frank House and 10-minute walk to the lively Leidseplein or Dam Square in the other direction. Hotel Pulitzer’s banquet and conference rooms include the Saxenburgzaal, now restored to its original baroque elegance, and the art nouveau Tuinzaal, which has a view of the hotel’s enclosed gardens. All in all you would be hard pushed to find a more elegant hotel that ticks all the boxes on both a business and leisure level quite like this one.

Located on Dam Square, the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is well suited for business needs. Its 14 meeting rooms can handle groups of 10 to 600, and with several restaurants on site – serving Japanese, Dutch or international food – you won’t have to go far for meal breaks. The lounge is a pleasant place to unwind and take in the view of Amsterdam’s busiest square. Rooms are modern and relatively spacious though not overwhelmingly charming. The dozens of furnished apartments are ideal for business travellers who will be in town for more than a few days.
