The Landis’ tasteful art deco decor and best service in town ensure that it has won a special place in the hearts and minds of Taipei citizens and visitors alike. Its French restaurant, Paris 1930, is acknowledged to be Taipei’s number one gourmet restaurant and its Hangzhou restaurant, Tienhsianglou, is close to being a number one Chinese restaurant as well. The latter is particularly unusual in that the staff are highly knowledgeable about pairing Western wines with Chinese food. The rooms have all been recently remodelled in appealing minimalist styles. The only negative may be the hotel’s location. But although Minchuan East Road is hardly one of Taipei’s most charming, it is near enough to the pleasant tree- lined boulevard, Zhongshan North Road, to satisfy most visitors. Given the hotel’s popularity, reservations made well in advance are highly recommended.

This opulent hotel is traditional British elegance—all light woods and black and white tiled floors—at its best. Service standards are among the best in town. Rooms are luxuriously comfortable. The first-floor Toscana Italian restaurant attracts discerning diners, not only for its fine Italian cooking but its lovely solarium. Book ahead for these tables. Toscana is also well known among Taipei’s ladies-who-lunch for its stylish afternoon teas. Meanwhile, Henry’s Bar on the second floor offers up an intimate, clubby atmosphere that is popular with bankers and executives who work along Minsheng East Road and Dunhua North Road.
