Aesops is smashing in every sense. You can even buy plates to break ($15 a dozen!). Have a go at Greek dancing in between courses of mouth-watering delicacies which include moussaka, dips, dolmathes and calamari. But be warned: this is also a favourite spot for hen parties!

Located in Sydney’s Little Italy in the bustling inner-city suburb of Leichhardt. Bar Italia is great for families and one of the best spots for gelato and ice cream. But service is at best tardy and abrupt. It’s a no-frills restaurant. Cash, no credit cards, no reservations, BYO and counter only.

You'll feel as if you’ve stepped inside a Parisian café with a delicious range of French cuisine. The house special is confit duck leg. There’s also outdoor dining and wheelchair access. Check out the daily specials board, but watch out for extras such as salads which can add $s to the bill.

This is one of the city’s most established (and welcoming) restaurants. With big fat salami sausages hanging from the ceiling and bottles of sangria above the bar you’ll feel very at home in this taverna. If you’re dining with a friend, share the paella, rumoured to be the best in Sydney.

A modern Italian restaurant serving delicious pasta and yummy wood-fired pizzas. Eat inside or in the quaint courtyard sitting on one of the long wooden chairs and tables. Seafood lovers should try the Gamberoni al Cognacking; prawns with green peppercorns, cognac, cream and tomato. Divine!
