Located on the shores of the harbour, the FHarbourside apartments have a grandstand view of the Harbour Bridge. The building is not attractive but it is functional. Don’t be put off by the fact it’s on the opposite side of the water to the CBD. Just outside, you’ll find the McMahon’s Point ferry and it takes just seven minutes to travel into the city. The recently finished swimming pool is stunning, but sadly there are no balconies from which to admire the amazing harbour views. It can also be noisy at night if you have a room facing out to the harbour.

Conveniently located in the middle of the city, this hotel is around the corner from the Queen Victoria Building and Pitt Street Shopping Mall. The rooms are compact, but it’s a perfect bolt hole from which to explore the city. Prices start from $109 a room, making it easy on your wallet. And if you do get the munchies, then check out the Mezz restaurant. There’s even live entertainment on offer, Thursday to Sunday nights.

A night’s stay in the Moogsuite is bound to \nbe one you’ll remember forever. Equipped with its own heated pool, swimming jets and underwater speakers—you can even watch your favourite DVD projected on to the pool’s glass walls! And if you’re feeling tuneful there’s a music studio attached! It’s exclusive, peaceful and the ultimate in decadence. The only problem is the huge dent it will make to your wallet ($990 per night!) and the fact you may never want to leave.

Boasting perhaps the best views in the city the Shangri-La (previously [name]d the ANA) is also a perfect spot for business travellers. All guest rooms have views, so you won’t miss out! In 2004, it won the award for best high-tech hotel as voted for by Hotel Management magazine. Guest rooms are spacious and luxurious. For the ultimate in opulence, check out the grand ballroom adorned with Thai silk walls and Venetian chandeliers.

You’ll think you’ve stepped into a scene from The Matrix with this hotel’s hi-tech feel. (Funnily enough, some of the movie’s city scenes were filmed only a few streets away). But despite its futuristic feel, it’s comfortable and has great deals on apartment-rooms. There are five double storey lofts with kitchenettes and spa baths, a real home from home. Minc 3 is the restaurant and lounge bar and if you feel like nightclubbing, then check out Minc Club, which opens from 5pm Thursday and Friday nights and 9pm on Saturdays.
