There’s more than one branch of this chicken rice restaurant, and there are plenty of other places offering this national dish, but Boon Tong Kee is renowned as one of the best. Very busy, especially in the early hours. Chicken rice is best enjoyed with fried greens and a glass of cold lime juice.

Apart from its really nice seafront setting, Long Beach boasts must-try local favourites like chilli crab alongside lesser-known dishes like Sri Lankan crabs cooked with beer in a clay pot or fried with white pepper. If spicy specials are more to your taste, try local dishes like sambal kangkong (chilli greens), rojak (mixed salad in peanut sauce) and mee goreng (fried noodles).
