To see a movie north of the river, try this giant, ultra-modern, multi-screen cineplex in the World Cup stadium. Foreign films all run with Korean subtitles.

In the quiet street just behind Deoksu Palace, this theatre presents a range of traditional performances—drumming, dance, traditional opera and plays. After the shows, you can take pictures with the performers.

Set in the basement below the Oakwood Premier Apartments, this is a bar/ restaurant offering burgers plus Korean dishes, but the main draw is the ring in the centre. Here, every night, martial artists from different styles (kick boxing, judo, jujitsu and tae kwon do) get up and ruck in no-holds-barred events. Reservations recommended. Closed Sundays.

To see a movie south of the river, there’s a very similar multi-screen cineplex in the COEX mall. Here you also have an aquarium, exhibitions, shops and so on.

A real must, this Stomp-like percussion performance blends comedy, Korean drumming, dance, gymnastics and martial arts in its very own theatre. It’s fun for anyone of any age, and as it’s non-verbal there’s no language barrier. But beware, you could be dragged on stage for some audience participation.
