Seoul / Accommodation / Classic

It’s not quite a classic hotel—it was built in 1914, demolished in 1967 and rebuilt in 1970—but the Chosun still retains a special ambience. The royal Altar of Heaven sits in the grounds, offering an unforgettable view to diners in the flagship Ninth Gate restaurant. Guests have included Japanese royalty, Bob Hope, invading North Korean troops and Muhammad Ali. Probably the world’s most expensive pint of Guinness is served in the popular O’Kim’s Irish bar. Full conference facilities are available and the location is perfect, bang in the centre of downtown. But the building itself can’t compete with the latest hotels.
