Fukumitsuya is near several government offices, in a neighbourhood where many Chinese live, so it draws an eclectic crowd. Since opening in May 2004, it has received rave reviews in local restaurant guides for its Peking-style cuisine. Its fried dumplings are melt-in-your-mouth and definitely among the best in the city.

Far and away the most popular Chinese in Osaka, Hong Kong Chanron is a buffetstyle restaurant (price from £10) with gourmet dishes prepared by Hong Kong chefs. The taste, however, tends to be less authentic than in other, less well-known establishments. But the queues are always long. They stop letting people in at 9pm and the restaurant closes at 11pm. Reservations are essential if you’re going in a group.

Manshuryo can be difficult to find as it’s in an unassuming neighbourhood not far from the Tempozan district. The restaurant features simple but delicious Peking and Cantonese-style dishes prepared by a Chinese chef. The a la carte portions are a bit small, but menus with multiple courses are available for between £15 and £25 per person. Popular with locals and many of the Chinese who live and work in the area.

Located in the Citywalk shopping centre, Seiryumon specialises in Tawainese cuisine prepared by Taiwanese chefs. Try the various shrimp, chicken and beef dumplings as well as the traditional Chinese desserts. The large number of Taiwanese tourists here will make you feel like you’ve taken a side trip to Taipei.
