There are three reasons why the Comfort Hotel Shinsaibashi is well-known. First, and very unusual for Japan, it has a ladiesonly floor. Given the hotel’s proximity to the Shinsaibashi nightlife, that’s of great comfort to single women who don’t need drunken businessmen staggering about trying to find their rooms. In addition, the hotel offers free internet access. And finally, there are non-smoking rooms available. Beyond that, Comfort Hotel offers the basics found at business hotels, although breakfast is included for free. But with the vast array of eating establishments right outside the door in Shinsaibashi, that’s an option you might want to pass on.

The Hearton Hotel is in the same neighbourhood as the Ritz-Carlton, which means easy access to JR Osaka station and the host of restaurants, shops and nightlife in the Kitashinchi area. The hotel is fairly small and the beds aren’t the most comfortable. But it is very modern and clean and the service is quite good. An excellent alternative for those who need to be in the Umeda area but don’t wish to spend a fortune at the Ritz or the Hilton. It can be difficult to get reservations.

At nearly 650 rooms, Hotel Granvia Osaka is one of the largest hotels in Japan. Yet because of its extremely convenient location, right inside the JR Osaka station building, getting a room is often difficult. The restaurants feature a wide variety of cuisine, including Japanese, Chinese and Western. The first floor coffee shop is usually jammed, not with guests but with commuters passing through Osaka station on their way home. For those who need a reasonably priced hotel in the most convenient location possible, the Granvia can’t be beat.

Hotel Riva is on Midosuji Blvd, just a few blocks north of the Dotonbori river, and sits on the southern edge of the Europe Village district of Shinsaibashi. Numerous international bars, restaurants and nightclubs are within a five-minute walk, while Namba station is about 10 minutes’ walk away. The hotel’s internetfriendly set-up, which includes LAN lines into nearly every room, makes it an especially popular destination with international businessmen and all those who like to stay online abroad.

This is a classic example of what the Japanese call a business hotel. It has very basic facilities but is clean and modern with only one small restaurant and nothing in the way of personal or business\r\[name]nities. However, the Sun Route does have a large number of conference rooms for business meetings, and it’s the favoured hotel of local business and political leaders who need a smoke-filled room for a few hours to select a new chairman or mayor. The Umeda location means easy access to trains, shops and nightlife in the surrounding area.
