You’ll feel like a star when you check in to the ultra-hip Establishment Hotel. The guest rooms have two colour schemes. If you’re in a daring mood, check into one with Japan black floorboards and bold colours; romantics can opt for a room with tranquil softer hues. The penthouse suites are split level. And for a vibrant nightlife you won’t even have to leave the building with its host of trendy bars, clubs and even a cocktail lounge.

The quirky ultra-stylish Medusa is just sooo Sydney: plush bathrooms, great design and a bit on the flashy side. It’s located (of course!) in chic Darlinghurst, set amongst bustling cafés and boutiques. An 18th-century Victorian townhouse, the design by Scott Weston is bold and bang up to date. And dog lovers take note: guests can even bring their canine pals with them if they book a courtyard room. It’s also popular with gay travellers and the latte crowd!

Once a grungy, bohemian hangout, the hotel’s 1990s facelift has seen it become a place of style and substance. Guests can fine-dine at Circa or enjoy coffee at Il Fornaio. If it’s a drink you’re after, roam between Mink, the downstairs vodka bar, the deck or the Public Bar. You might even see some live music in the Prince Band Room. Alternatively, you might wish to unwind at Aurora Spa Retreat, one of Melbourne’s most popular spas. There are beautiful touches everywhere: Marc Newson chairs in the foyer; Aesop preparations in the bathrooms; Campari and Louis Roederer Champagne in the room bar.

This is Sydney’s first over-water hotel located on a 1912 finger wharf. But just watch you don’t fall into Walsh Bay from the boardwalk right outside the lobby door! It’s at historic Dawes Point and close to the Rocks and Harbour Bridge. This is another Sydney hotel with a fabulous mix of rich heritage and modern design. Most rooms have fabulous views and of course, all mod cons and the obligatory towelling bathrobe. A bit on the pricey side, but worth every dollar.
