Kuala Lumpur / Nightlife / Club

Despite the thatched roof and wooden boat fronting this place, the Beach Club is as far away from a tranquil day at the beach as you can get. It’s loud, it’s smoky and it’s sleazy (with a blatant bar girl scene). Crowded with expats and tourists.

A busy Latino bar that makes a stab at decor, drinks and culture from Latin America. A trim Malaysian band belting out salsa to an appreciative crowd may be a surreal sight, but there’s no doubting that El Niño offers a great night out, whether you’re a dancefloor sensation or blighted with two left feet.

A so-hip-it-hurts joint where DJs spin a touch of tribal house and remixes. It’s best to get there just about midnight. The club is popular with KL’s gay community.

Despite the kitschy Thai/Country and Western/’80s discotheque decor, this place is well worth a visit if you like your action naughty and rowdy. Just remember to stay out of trouble because a sign at the door says, “Fight? Banned for six months.” Remember to duck.

One of the city’s biggest dance clubs with top international DJs and house, techno and drum ’n’ bass sounds blasting until 6am. The hip people start arriving after midnight and it has a strong gay following.
