An intimate Japanese restaurant, its elegant decor is all clean spaces and sharp lines. The shiroi shiitake is usually very good, but the lamb chops (ramu) break the succulence index. They should bring you some some fiery wasabi, but ask for it if they don’t. Enoki is more of a casual destination than the more classical Sakura.

Sakura is the best Japanese place in town. Set in the colonial business district, the decor is minimalist and the cuisine royal Kaiseiki. The sashimi and sushi served in perfect lacquerware are impeccable, and the nigiri sushi bento is divine. Ask for the simmered black cod. The prices reach the heights of the culinary skill.
