A classical exterior and stunning interiors create a serene elegance throughout, even though it’s bang in the heart of loud, tacky Janpath. Built in 1933, The Imperial is a real wow. The old photographs and memorabilia displayed on its walls are said to be worth more than the property, no slouch itself in the realty market. The house-tour is highly recommended if you want to relive the life of the East India Company nabobs. Go down for breakfast and nibble on toast as you survey the lawn from a deep verandah, and do have a coffee in the atrium. The incongruous touch in all this colonial nostalgia comes from the bellhops at the lobby door—they’re all chirpy Tibetan/ Sikkimese girls.
