Grand Hyatt has the undisputed number one location in Beijing and you won’t want to leave. The hotel comes complete with a shopping arcade, four restaurants—two of which are also some of the best you come across in Beijing, though at a hefty price—and premium business facilities. Club Oasis, which looks like some sort of tropical James Bond set, offers some of the best fitness club facilities in the city. Red Moon bar has the best Martinis in town and a good selection of cigars.

The Peninsula, known as The Pen, has retained the feel of its Kowloon cousin in Hong Kong. The hotel has it all, from excellent restaurants to Rolls Royce service and designer boutiques. The rooms are bigger in each category, the bathrooms are handsomely faced in marble and the bedside tables feature an array of buttons that control everything from the TV to the curtains. A number of new suites are opening, although it’s hard to imagine how more luxury can be fitted into a hotel room. Fabulous spa facilities, helpful concierge, great location—all that’s missing is a view.
