Beijing / Accommodation / Business

Again part of the Shangri-La chain, this is Beijing’s top business hotel with an extensive array of business services and facilities. Four executive floors offer 126 large and very tastefully decorated rooms, and the hotel’s Aria restaurant and bar is a top choice in Beijing—go for a dry Martini. The hotel has dozens of meeting rooms in various sizes and its business services are probably the best in the city, so make sure you book far in advance for a conference. In addition, the hotel’s location means swift transport to and from the airport.

The Hilton is perfectly located in the middle of the Chaoyang district, and the services here are as good as in any other Hilton in the world. Despite its being a business hotel, the business centre is small. However, it is very effective, evidenced by the conference facilities which are excellent and diverse. There are nine rooms of various sizes, three of which can hold up to 300 people. The hotel is right on the Third Ring Road and access to and from the airport is very convenient. Hotel renovations has just been renovated, so expect to see some improvements.

There’s no denying it, the Kerry Centre Hotel is among the best-run hotels in Beijing. The service is efficient and they always seem to be two steps ahead in anticipating your needs. The hotel features a wonderfully sleek design and is happily bereft of many of the design excesses taken for luxury these days. Check out Centro, an excellent bar with live jazz in the evenings and later live DJs spinning the best of Paris lounge. Keep an eye out for the Martini nights and cocktail specials. In addition to the high-powered fitness facilities, the hotel even has a squash court and an indoor basketball court. Adjacent you’ll find the Kerry Centre—a place to which many expats flee on the weekends to get the imports you can’t find anywhere else in Beijing. Check out the Horizon Club for those who frequent Shangri-La hotels.

West of the city centre in Xicheng, this hotel has a slightly odd layout, but the rooms are of a very high standard for the money. They are spacious and the bathrooms are lined with marble. The lounge is particularly nice and the restaurants are good and reasonably priced with attentive staff. The hotel has 2,000 square metres of conference space which can be divided into smaller rooms. Located between the banking district and commercial zone, it’s your best bet if you’re doing business this side of the city.

Shangri-La means quality guaranteed. The facilities in this hotel are good for the price, but the location is a bit out of the way. Situated south of Zhongguancun, this hotel is attractive if you have business in that end of town and, unlike many hotels in the city, it boasts a large garden. Rooms are comfortable but slightly less luxurious than those of its sister China World Hotel. It has a well-stocked business centre, a good-sized conference room and lives up to its five-star rating with very helpful staff. For entertainment, dress up and go to the Cloud Nine Bar for live music. The Shang Palace restaurant has some good dim sum.
